You Should Never Actually See Your Vehicle’s Exhaust

With the exception of steam in cold weather, you shouldn’t actually see your vehicle’s exhaust. Even if you drive a diesel automobile, Getz Automotive advises that consistent exhaust smoke is a sign that the engine is hemorrhaging an automotive fluid. This can make driving your automobile dangerous and damaging. If you have a constant exhaust flow, bring your car, truck, or utility vehicle to our shop as soon as possible. We are going to explain why time is of the essence to your vehicle below.

Black

Let’s assume for the moment that your automobile is constantly releasing black exhaust smoke out of the tailpipe. This is a side effect of fuel burning in the engine. Naturally, if your engine is burning more fuel than it normally should, you could end up with an engine fire. In fact, in severe cases, leaking fuel has caused sparks and flames to come out of the tailpipe. You will discover a pattern as you keep reading this post and that is that you should stop driving your vehicle if it is releasing excess exhaust.

Blue

The same is true with blue or gray exhaust because this means that your engine is hemorrhaging motor oil. If you continue to drive your automobile with an oil leak big enough to cause blue/gray exhaust, you will damage the engine beyond repair. Chances are, you are driving with a cracked cylinder block. This causes the motor oil to leak into the cylinders where it is burned along with the air and fuel. Be safe and have your vehicle towed to our shop. A cracked head gasket is a bad enough auto repair.

White

Burning engine coolant causes white exhaust to flow out of the tailpipe and white steam to flow out from underneath the hood. A coolant leak that is this bad will also cause your engine to overheat. The most common cause of the white exhaust smoke is a cracked head gasket. When the head gasket cracks, pressurized coolant starts to spray all over the engine. Once the coolant makes contact with the hot engine parts and flows into the cylinders, you will end up with steam and white exhaust, respectively.
