Getting rid of your car, truck, or C/SUV may not be an option for you, so if the engine is at the end of its life, you’ll need to replace it. Getz Automotive can do this for you. We can also partially rebuild the engine or replace a worn-out system. The problems we are going to discuss below are signs that the engine is in need of a partial rebuild at a minimum.
Cannot Produce Power
You need a new engine, however, if your old engine can no longer produce power. We will be able to tell that the engine has reached the end of its life because no amount of repair work will restore its ability to produce the power it needs to turn the drivetrain and move the car. All machinery has a set lifespan and once it reaches the end of that lifespan, it needs to be replaced.
Knocks All the Time
We might be able to repair the engine if it is knocking all the time. This is a sign that you need to have the rod bearings in the cylinder block replaced. The bearings move the rods up and down and the rods move the pistons up and down. The pistons are making the knocking sound that you hear because they are clanking against the interior cylinder walls. This can damage the cylinder block. Replacing the damaged block is a partial engine rebuild.
Metal in the Motor Oil
Another instance when a rebuild will not help is if you see metal shavings in the motor oil. Unfortunately, this is a sign that the engine is dissolving. That’s right. The metal is disintegrating so we will need to replace the engine. In addition, the metal in the oil will damage the engine irreparably.
Overheats All the Time
If your automobile is overheating every time that you drive it, it could be that the cooling system needs to be replaced. It’s also possible that you have a blown head gasket, cracked manifold gasket, or cracked engine block. The latter generally requires a new engine to repair it.
Produces Too Much Exhaust
Finally, your engine is in need of serious repair or replacement if it is releasing excessive amounts of exhaust. This is a sign that the engine has a severe fluid leak. It’s leaking fuel, oil, or coolant all over the engine and burning the fluid away. This can be caused by a cracked engine gasket, head gasket, or leaking cylinder block among other serious problems.
