Muffler Damage
Let’s talk about muffler damage first. When the muffler gets damaged, your engine will roar loudly. This is especially true when you press down on the accelerator. In fact, your engine will rumble. You may think you are driving a race car. The problem with this is that the noise can render you a moving violation. As such, bring your vehicle to our shop so we can replace the muffler.
Tailpipe Damage
Exhaust can leak out of the tailpipe if there is a hole in it. It is easy to damage the tailpipe because of where it is located. Unfortunately, if you have a damaged tailpipe, it will need to be replaced. Do not worry. We can do that here at our shop, and we are the best shop in town.
Burning Odors
Another sign that your exhaust system is leaking is burning odors coming from the engine. Specifically, the odors will smell rancid because plastic and rubber are melting in the engine. The reason why is that the exhaust manifold or manifold gasket is leaking and releasing scorching exhaust into the engine.
Fuel Odors
We mentioned above that we will also check your exhaust system for clogs. If you do have a clog in the exhaust system, you may start to smell fuel in the passenger cabin. Whether you detect the odor of fuel or exhaust, stop driving your vehicle to avoid getting sick.
Rotten Performance
If your engine performance is poor and your acceleration is lagging, your exhaust system could be leaking. The exhaust system is designed to remove the exhaust from the engine. If it leaks exhaust into the engine, it will prevent the production of combustion in the combustion chamber.
Poor Fuel Mileage
Consequently, this will reduce your fuel mileage, which can be a real problem if you cannot afford to fill your tank more often. As such, we recommend that you have us inspect your exhaust system every two years to make sure there is nothing wrong with it.
