Maintaining Your Car Includes the Tires and Wheels

Getz Automotive can help with all of your car, truck, or utility vehicle maintenance including the tires and wheels. It is important that you take care of these suspension parts so you always remain in control of your automobile. We are going to list tire and wheel services below that will help ensure you get the most mileage out of your tires. After all, you should get the guaranteed mileage but it’s crucial that you take care of the tires in order to do so.

Air Check

We recommend that you check the air pressure in each tire every two weeks or once a month. Make certain that each tire is inflated to the recommended PSI. If any of the tires need air, add air only to the recommended PSI. Never overinflate the tires as this can damage them on the inside. While you are checking the air pressure in each tire, also check the air pressure in the spare.

Inspection

Another thing that is a good idea to do while you are checking the air pressure is to inspect each tire to make sure all of the tires look okay. Check the sidewalls to see if you see anything strange such as cracking or bubbling. Check the tire treads to make sure they are wearing down evenly. If you see that the tread on a tire is wearing down in patches or circles, bring your vehicle to our shop.

Rotation

It’s possible that the reason why the tire is wearing down unevenly is that your tires need to be rotated. It is also possible that the wheels need to be aligned, but we will talk more about that below. If you check your owner’s manual, you will see that your vehicle’s manufacturer recommends that you have the tires rotated anywhere between every 5,000 miles to every 10,000 miles. Go by the specific duration that your vehicle manufacturer recommends.

Balance

One thing that should happen when you get the tires rotated is that the wheels should be balanced, as well. This ensures that you have even wheel weight across the axles. Uneven weight can chew up the tires and cause them to vibrate while you drive.

Alignment

Finally, the wheels should be aligned annually or every two years. If you knock them out of alignment prior to this duration, they need to be aligned right away to avoid tire damage.
