There’s No Coolant Circulation if the Water Pump Is Dead

If your vehicle’s water pump has died, you won’t have any coolant circulating through the engine. In fact, one way to test the water pump is to see how well the coolant circulation is. Getz Automotive can do this for you if you suspect your water pump is going bad. This part usually lasts about 100,000 miles, but it can fail much sooner if it isn’t a quality part. Aside from poor circulation, there are other signs that your vehicle is equipped with a malfunctioning water pump. Here are these signs for your information.

Corroded Water Pump

If you pop the hood of your automobile and look at the water pump, you shouldn’t see any corrosion around it. If you do see a gooey substance around the pump, it is leaking engine coolant slowly. A poor-quality water pump can begin leaking coolant as soon as 30,000 miles, so it’s important to invest in a water pump of good quality when you replace the original pump from the factory. Even a minor engine coolant leak can affect your engine’s performance and temperature, so it’s important to replace the leaking water pump as soon as possible.

Leaking Coolant

Water pumps can also spring larger leaks that leave you with engine coolant on your garage floor. In this case, the leak will definitely affect your engine’s temperature. Again, a poor-quality water pump can start leaking after about 30,000 miles of operation. The factory pump should not spring a leak until 60,000 miles to 90,000 miles, if at all. If you find yourself constantly adding coolant to your engine and see spots on your garage floor, it’s a safe bet that your cooling system has a leak. This leak can be coming from the water pump.

Overheating Engine

Either way, one sure sign that your water pump is failing is if your engine overheats constantly. This can be due to the fact that the pump is no longer able to circulate the coolant through the engine, or you may have low coolant levels due to the water pump leak. Either way, it’s important that you don’t drive your automobile when the engine is running too hot. You can cause serious damage doing this, including cracking crucial parts like the head gasket or exhaust manifold or even cracking the engine block.

Rather, bring your automobile into Getz Automotive in Fuquay-Varina, NC, right away so we can get to the bottom of the issue. If it is the water pump, we will replace it with a high-quality part.
